The Research Ensemble - Taylor Wilson

Taylor Wilson studied singing at The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, opera studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and read modern languages at Strathclyde University (French, German, Italian). She has participated in masterclasses given by Malcolm Martineau, John Tomlinson and Brigitte Fassbänder. Opera roles include Bradamante(Handel’s Alcina), Mother(Noyes Fludde), Orfeo(Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice) ,Cherubino(Mozart’s le Nozze di Figaro) and most recently Noble Orphan(Strauss’s Rosenkavalier), Carmen(Bizet’s Carmen) and Siebel (Gounod’s Faust)

Taylor performs regularly in both recital and oratorio where recent solo engagements include a Dutch radio recital of contemporary music in Hertogenbosch, Holland, a recital in Los Angeles, Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn in Wiesbaden, Mozart’s Requiem in Ireland and Körpper’s Schöpfer Geist in Hannover.
She has also worked with professional ensembles such as Cappella Nova, Live Music Now, Dunedin Consort and Research Ensemble.

Apart from live performances, Taylor has made several recordings and has appeared on a number of soundtracks for both film and television, most recently performing live on the Radio Café Show on Radio Scotland and featuring on the sound track of a Scottish-based film, Blinded, which was screened at the Edinburgh and Cannes FilmFestivals.
She is a regular performer at the Edinburgh Festival, last year having performed both as chanteuse (her one-woman show) and recitalist of contemporary music in which she collaborated with various composers, including John Rose, whose songs she has performed and recorded.

Since returning to Scotland from a year singing in Germany and Austria in festivals such as Salzburg’s Osterfestspiele, Taylor has now widened her repertoire to include music which straddles the divide between classical and other styles. This has led her to compose and record her own works and perform with like-minded hybrid musicians such as McFall’s Chamber Orchestra with whom she features as guest artist, most recently in the Queen’s Hall and the Bongo Club, Edinburgh.

Future engagements include a tour of Switzerland, Two Widows and La Traviata with Scottish Opera and a recording of her one-woman show.
